God... Isn't So Dead After All?

Read this over the weekend in the new issue of EW and, honestly, was just trying not to think about it, but since it's making the rounds and I'm so Dark Materials obsessed I figured I should at least highlight it briefly. This is Nicole Kidman talking about the transfer of The Golden Compass' anti-established-religion themes to the screen:

"It has been watered down a little... I was raised Catholic, the Catholic Church is part of my essence. I wouldn't be able to do this film if I thought it were at all anti-Catholic."

Blah blah blah, ya know? I've already steeled myself for the fact that all the relion in the book will be prescribed to this "Magesterium" entity, and if Phillip Pullman signed off on what Chris Weitz is doing then I'll give it the benefit of the doubt.

I think, or I hope really, that all it'll take is the slightest bit of reading between the lines to get the gist, and Kidman can hem and haw and appease the believers out there and that's fine. We'll see what we're dealing with in a couple months.
