Thank the Baby Jesus for Pixar.

"I too quit smoking (2013) AND find this type of pictures cool. Also, PSA: if you're feeling like you want to start smoking again, just remind yourself "I do not want my body and house to stink like stale horseshit", then go drink one more glass of water to entertain your hands and lips. Congrats, btw."--- Anonymous congratulates us on another year of not smoking, which we celebrated with an enormous photo-dump of sexy smoking pictures as we're wont to do, annually. .

Thank the baby Jesus for Brad Bird.
And the Baby Jesus ain't that bad neither...
Oh JD, I like you too much to rant atheism at you, so let's call it a wash on that front.
But sure, Jesus the very human very non-son-of-anybody-but-Joseph said some very good things that should be respected. That "love thy neighbor" spiel is on the money.
But anyway, seriously: Brad Bird = Da Man.
How is it again that Brad Bird can make better, more honest movies with animated characters than what's his face can make with a cast full of Streeps and Redgraves in 'Evening'?
I was really surprised - and shouldn't have been since everybody's reviews said so - at how adult Ratatouille was though. And so scary! The dead rats hanging in that shop's windows! Not to mention just the swarms of rats themselves! I love that they went for that; kids don't need to be pampered to or looked down upon. Some of my favorite, or most memorable at least, movie moments from being a kid are the scary things and sure, they have a huge effect on you at that age but when done by someone genius like Brad Bird who wields them so intelligently I don't think they'll scar any kids, I think they teach kids important lessons. But anyway, to answer your question, rj, Brad Bird can do this because Brad Bird = Da Man, while Lajos Koltai is quite Not The Man, it appears.
Some parents who complain about the more adult elements really ought to go back and watch 'Snow White' and 'Pinnochio' etc...THOSE were some scary movies, but they're classic.
Ugh, Snow White has some freaky shit going on. Still creeps me out. All the old Disney flicks did... they've - I mean Dinsey - gotta remember that, and stop test-marketing their movies into gross little juicebox commercial movies. Kids can handle being challenged. Pixar knows it, and fucking knocks it outta the park every time.
Old Disney and fairy tales in general have dark mean streaks, but these days so many people are scared of scarring their kids in even the slighest so all they want is shiny happy surfing penguins or something.
I need this movie now, but it's not out until August 30. UGH
JA! Thoughts on Big Brother!!?
I'm still waiting for an animated Spanish Inquisition movie. Something like 101 Dalmations with Cruella de Vil as Torquemada and a bunch of Jewish puppies.
ross - now I'm waiting for it too. Can't wait to see puppies on the rack!
dl - hmm, I haven't really formulated many thoughts on it yet it takes me a couple episodes before I start to feel any allegiance to anyone. If you go over to Low Resolution, though, I agree with every single initial opinion that Joe had on every person in the house. I probably won't post anything on BB til next week, though.
Disturbing, yet I'd probably be first in line... hm...
