Kreacher Featured

This is David Yates, director of Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (as well as the next one too) answering what character it was author JK Rowling advised he might not want to exclude when narrowing the book down to script-length because this character might be important to the seventh and final Potter book, The Deathly Hallows. From MTV Movies Blog:

"It was Kreacher, actually... We took Kreacher out, and Jo said, ‘Listen guys, you don’t have to put Kreacher back, but I’m just telling you, if you want to kind of keep a thread going for six and seven, you might want Kreacher to come back.’ She basically told us Kreacher plays a role in Seven, in a sense. She hinted. We thought about it for five seconds, and he came back."

For y'all who don't know who Kreacher is, he's the house-elf (pictured above) that takes care of Harry's uncle Sirius Black's - played in the films by Gary Oldman - estate, much to his own chagrin. Kreacher is a pretty big part of the fifth book and, basically, a royal pain in Harry's arse.

And I guess now we know he's important to the final book, too. Not that that's suprising, knowing what we do about a certain unopenable locket and the term "horcrux".... yes, this is a terribly geeky post. Sigh.

Yes, he certainly does take care of Sirius Bluck, doesn't he? If you know what I mean.

From the publicity photos we're seeing (especially this one of Kreacher here and the one of Helena Bonham-Carter that was released a little while back), it kinda looks like the 5th movie could be ACTUALLY scary. I'm really starting to look forward to it, considering I don't really like the 5th book and I haven't really been pumped about the movie at all yet.

And I think the fact that they re-hired David Yates for the 6th book only tells us that they have A LOT of faith in what he did here. So yeah, looks like we could be in for something really special.

I'm getting all the same vibes, dl. And it's got me super-excited.

I too am not a huge fan of the 5th book, it was reeeeally heavy on the exposition - really, the entire plot was about acquiring exposition - but I do think that with a good whittling down it could be turned into something that'll work really well onscreen.

Oh, that's too good. I can't wait for the movie or the book; they're opening right around the time of my birthday, which is just a great gift.

Wait, so when you're bday, sf? Mine's right round there too - July 15th. I already know five other people with a July 15th birthday. And my uncle's is the 14th and my grandmother's is the 14th... so much humping in November, I guess.
