In this article at Cinematical (via my pal Sean), about the forthcoming slew of adaptations of stories from Clive Barker's truly great series Books of Blood, writer Scott Weinberg states:
"...my very favorite "BoB" story is one called "In the Hills, the Cities," and if you've ever read it, then you know why you could never make a movie out of it. Darnit."
"In the Hills, The Cities" is my favorite BoB story as well, and I used to think it'd be a foolhardy exercise, making a movie from it, but lately I've been thinking it could maybe happen.
I'm not going to spoil the story because one of the great pleasures of reading it is figuring out what's going on, but I can say this - and if you've read the story you might know what I'm talking about - there's a commercial that's been airing on TV lately that makes me think of this story every time I see it, and if you just jiggered with the CG some you could easily create the awe-inspiring creation Barker created in this story.
So if a commercial can manage something similar, then a movie could, too, right? CG = magic, just the sort this story would need, and honestly I would KILL to see this creation on a screen before I die.
This post was brought to you by the vaguest argument ever made, and my Benadryl hangover.
