Happy B-day, Finchy!

.

Director and object d' lust David Fincher turns 45 today. He's made six films so far, and is currently shooting number seven (The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, starring Brad Pitt and Cate Blanchett, from an F. Scott Fitzgerald story).

In his honor, a poll's been added over to the right-hand column - vote on what your favorite (feature; no videos, sorry!) film of Fincher's is, and then tell me why in the comments! At the end of the day I'll tell y'all the results. And feel free to vote as many times as you like; I'm not exactly figuring out who's gonna be President here.

I voted for Fight Club (maybe I'm not supposed to say) because I've written in the past that it's my generational movie. But I would have to say it was a hard choice because I love Seven and The Game and now Zodiac for all different reasons.

Fight Club to me is a declaration. A revolution in the form of a movie. It's easy to dismiss it as a bunch of hooey, but I choose not to.

Seven is just fricking scary. I guess I wasn't prepared for what I saw when I saw it in the theaters, but when the credits started to roll, it was like I was at the beginning of climbing a really steep hill of a roller coaster. I knew I was eventually in for it, and wasn't sure I was prepared.

The Game is such a wonderful movie and yeah, it's far fetched but so is a lot of stuff we see. Isn't that why we go to see movies? At the end, I literally wanted to cry because I felt like I had been through so much.

And Zodiac is such a tribute to the way movies used to be made and should be made. It shows his clout as a director that he was able to get such an extensive story on film and shoot it the way he did. It didn't feel rushed and the narrative changes hands so many times. I had never seen that before.

Good call out on his birthday.

Note to Dave. Have a drink to celebrate and then get back to making movies.

No, say! Everyone should say. I voted for Fight Club, too, just cuz it's the most fun and just sorta sears itself into your brain. I need to see Zodiac again before I could hand it these honors, but it could happen. Se7en I love too. And I'm glad you defend The game, because I think it rocks even if yes, it's totally implausible.

I'm kind of bummed to see 'Fight Club' is winning b/c it seems to me like it is routinely over praised and has been latched onto by people of my generation who champion it to obnoxious proportions.

For me, it was between Se7en and Zodiac-both different but genius. I have to go with Se7en, though, b/c the number of copy cat films shows how importantly unique a movie it really was.
