Birthday Blast

.

A very happy birthday to three VID (very important directors) today - love em or hate em, or ya know, be indifferent if you like, you can't argue that they haven't put out some of the most influential, interesting, or just plain fun American films of the past forty years.

First up, Sofia Coppola turns 36 today, and already has three great films under belt. What your fave, and why? I'd have to go with Lost In Translation probably, though I love all three.

Next is Robert Zemeckis, who's turning 55, and is often accused of championing style over substance (and often those critics are quite correct), but having made Who Framed Roger Rabbit? and Back to the Future and Romancing The Stone all those years ago still buys him a lot of good will on my part.

And then there's... Darth Lucas. Sigh. No comment. Happy 63rd birthday, George.

And also, a very happy 38th birthday to the lustrous acting-phenom that is Cate Blanchett!

Happy Birthday Sofia and Cate (and that's all I care about)!

And why does EVERYONE (but me) loathe The Polar Express?! WTF?!?! Well then, I'm the only one who realizes it's beauty, resonance, and excellence. :P
