Transsiberian

Just yesterday, when I posted my Today's Mood as Gordon from Session 9, I was meaning to check up on director Brad Anderson and see what he was up to, since I hadn't really heard much since The Machinist (forever known as the movie that brought us Christian Bale's terrifying weight-loss) three years ago now. But I forgot to check up on him.

Thankfully, Bloody Disgusting reminded me, with a link to a bunch of stills from his next picture, something called Transsiberian, that they describe thusly:

"... focuses on an American couple that travels on the famous Trans-Siberian train from China to Moscow and encounters another couple. What seems to be a simple train journey soon turns into a thrilling chase full of deception and murder as it becomes clear that not everybody is what they seem."

The film stars Woody Harrelson, Emily Mortimer, Ben Kingsley, Kate "Ennis' daughter" Mara, Eduardo "Devil's Backbone" Noriega, and Thomas "The Ship Captain in King Kong" Kretschmann (those last two fellows, in case ya don't know - and this is what I'm good for, after all - are super-hot -->).

So yeah, here are a couple pics from that link:

I do believe that top pic is Anderson himself. And have I mentioned that I really like Emily Mortimer? Ever since I watched the one-two punch of Match Point and Lovely & Amazing within the space of a few weeks, she's stuck in my mind as somebody deserving of lots of work. Yet she only shows up in slight roles here and there, so I'm hoping this'll give her another chance to shine.

Session 9 really is a terrific film - it made #7 in my 7 Scares of 7 Years list - and The Machinist almost has too much atmosphere (as if that's a bad thing); Bale's downright perverse transformation, along with the stifling claustrophobia Anderson soaked the movie in, made it practically too hard to even watch the film the first time through. I have been meaning to give it another chance, though. Nevertheless, Anderson is somebody to keep our eyes on, so I'm looking forward to hearing more about this one.

I LOVE Emily. LOVE.

If you want to love her more, rent Dear Frankie. Acting brilliance. Won my Best Actress 2005.

Can't wait for this.

I really like Emily too. Shame she has never had a moment like that other Emily (Blunt) and became a (deservedly) big star.

I didn't care for Sessions 9, but thought The Machinest was pretty darn special. This one sounds interesting and that poster is pretty great. Here's hoping it's good.
