I caught a little bit of Deliverance on television this weekend and it got me thinking - what the heck was director John Boorman's deal? He struck gold with this film relatively earlier in his career, but has never really found it again in the now 35 years since.
And then, funny enough, this morning I read about his next project and it's certainly one to make my ears perk up. From DH:
"AfterElton reports that John Boorman ("Excalibur," "Deliverance") will direct "Memoirs of Hadrian," a film based on French writer Marguerite Yourcenar's 1951 hit novel.
The story follows Roman Emperor Hadrian who was known for his military prowess, as well as his love of art, philosophy, culture and a young man named Antinous.
Charlie Hunnam (TV's "Queer as Folk," "Undeclared") is already attached to play Antinous and Antonio Banderas is said to be in talks to play Hadrian, the later already yielding a barrage of complaints."
I love that they only list Hunnam's TV credits, as if he hasn't been finding memorable roles in movies like Cold Mountain and Children of Men over the past several years. But anyway, Hunnam's thrown himself with relish into gay roles in the past, and we're all the more blessed because of it, so I am, with my usual fervor when it comes ot one of my crushes playing gay, uh, excited.
Banderas, on the other hand, hasn't done anything good in a very, very long time, but he was once capable of it so I'll not be a naysayer for now. That's for now, Mister Griffith; best not burn me!

Hunnam as Nathan Maloney has to be one of the biggest, greatest sexpot roles in all of the television universe.
