Mark Romanek, who besides directing the terrific One Hour Photo (yes, a Robin Williams movie that's terrific) also directed a couple of my favorite music videos ever, seems to be all set to finally direct his follow-up, and a very cool choice at that: a remake of the Universal Horror Classic The Wolf Man to star Benicio De Toro (talk about good casting). From The Hollywood Reporter:
"The movie will hew to the period pedigree of the 1941 original, in which a man returns from the U.S. to his ancestral home in Victorian-era Great Britain, gets bitten by a werewolf and begins a hairy moonlight existence. Andrew Kevin Walker (Seven) wrote the screenplay. A fall start is being planned.
"Mark has a great love and knowledge of film," Stuber said. "He's a great and authentic storyteller. He looks for the truth in the characters, the scenes and in the set design. It's going to be exciting to see what he brings to the horror genre.""
Very cool that they're gonna stick to the original's time period, too. If nothing else, this thing's gonna look amazing; Romanek's got a flawless eye.
If you wanna see what Romanek can do with "Victorian-era Great Britain", behold possibly my favorite music video ever, Nine Inch Nails' "The Perfect Drug" -
