I Am Link

--- You Bastards!!! The Horror Blog was the bearer of very bad news for me the other day, when they pointed me to this bit of info regarding Greg McLean's next film Rogue (of which I was just contemplating its release date the other day):

"This move should come as no surprise to most people who have been following the film. With Primeval making a ballsy move and coming out this Friday Rogue has been completely pulled off the release schedule. Anyone care to guess who did the pulling? Yep, the Weinsteins...

In this case in may be a little reasonable since both films Rogue and Primeval are quite similar dealing with Crocodiles. But this begs the question what is the fate of the film? Will the Weinsteins give it a 500 theater release or maybe pull a Feast and release it over one weekend at midnight."

Goddamnit! I knew I hated the Weinsteins. First they release McLean's brilliant Wolf Creek on effin' Christmas Day, which made it impossible for me to see it until it was released on DVD, and now this. I saw Harvey once on the street, and I should've just punched him then. Now I may never get my chance! Watch your back, Weinsteins! I mean, who the f- wants to even see Primeval? It stars that steroid-freak from Prison Break, and the trailer sucks hard. Ugh.

--- Word comes, via Film Ick, that director Eli Roth will definitely not have any hand in the sequel to Cabin Fever, now apparently titled Spring Fever, cuz he too busy with Hostels Parts II-MMCXXIII, and that adaptation of Stephen King's book Cell. Kind of a shame, cuz after rewatching Cabin Fever a second time straight through recently, it gels much better than I'd remembered, and I'd love to see him tackle another round of flesh-eating-bacteria fun. Alas, he's a busy busy man these days. Too busy to return my phones calls, too!

Ahem. Also, that Hostel Part II slab-o-beef poster I praised? THB points me to an article at Bloody Disgusting where it's revealed that while yes, even though the MPAA somehow approved that poster for US audiences, there are theater chains that are gonna exercise their right to ban it themselves.

--- And while I'm at it, also in that linkariffic post I just linked to at THB (blogging can be a real circle jerk some times, ya know?), mention is made of a book by Jack Ketchum called The Girl Next Door, which is what one of wonderful actress Ellen Page's films is based on, or, that is, her film is based on the backstory to the book, while at the same time there's a movie adaption of the book itself being made. Phew that was some circuitous talk. Anyhoo, THB says of The Girl Next Door (the book), that it is "considered by many, including this writer, to be one of the most harrowing novels ever written." Um, sign me up! Must find book. Anyone else read it?

--- Also in horror news, AICN has got a very troubling script review of the Rob Zombie Halloween remake up today and IT. MADE. ME. ANGRY. It seems a vast majority of the script spends its time explaining Michael Myers childhood and teen years away using seen-it-a-billion-times-over-already serial killer psychobabble. What are you thinking, Rob Zombie, explaining Michael Myers at all? HE IS NOT TO BE UNDERSTOOD. HE IS A PHANTOM. MYTHIC. The reviewer hits the nail on the head with this:

"When you explain away Michael, giving him modern day serial killer hellish upbringing, you take away his power. He no longer represents a myth bigger than a person, he doesn't represent death incarnate. He's just an average psycho in a mask. There's nothing special to him anymore.

I was hoping that Zombie, as a professed fan of Carpenter's film, would understand that and it's my biggest disappointment in the script that Zombie doesn't seem to."

God I hope this turns out to be the wrong script. What a horrible horrible idea.

--- In the world outside of horror (but no less geeky), spoilery rumors about Starbuck's fate on Battlestar Galactica are impossible to avoid! All sorts of "They're gonna murder her!" thoughts being bandied about, over at AICN and at ModFab and in the new issue of EW. Nooo! I refuse to believe it. In an interview with the Chicago Tribune, producer Ron Moore says:

"... a “profound” event involving Starbuck does occur... [it] will be one of the most surprising things that’s happened in the history of the show so far.” What happens to Thrace “will jump out and grab you."

Urgh! Damned show with its surprises. Why can't I like shows that suck and don't live to pull the rug out from under me? Why can't I like, say, The Ghost Whisperer? Eww, that made me throw up in my mouth a little. Anyway, Moore and David Eick also discuss the BSG movie in that article, so check it out!

--- Ooh BAFTA nominates Daniel Craig for Best Actor. Totally down with that.

--- And finally, Popwatch goes batshit for what they've heard of the new - released next month I think - Arcade Fire album, and I must agree - I've heard 3 songs and, while I was only a sort-of fan of their last album Funeral, this new stuff? Knocking my proverbial socks off. To the moon! Great great stuff, seek it out if ya can. Maybe you could look, I dunno... here?
