After a long drought of not watching many movies, especially in the theater, I am getting myself back up to speed. I saw both Little Children (sort of reviewed here) and Shortbus (which I haven't said a word about yet, besides that A grade over to the right... I know, shame on me... um, "I loved it, see it, it's great", there's my review) last weekend, and this weekend I'll again be seeing two movies, this time The Queen and The Departed.
As I've expressed before, I am still nursing wounds from Scorsese's recent Oscar-baiting, but the phenomenal word-of-mouth for The Departed has finally convinced me to try once more.
And as for The Queen, I really had no interest in advance, but upon seeing the previews and reading some of the reviews (99% positive on the Tomato-Meter!!!) I am officially choking on high hopes for it right now. Choking!
I've also got A Prairie Home Companion sitting at home calling my name.
And I finally watched Art School Confidential last night, which I found myself enjoying more than I expected to... until the final act, that is, which just... I get what it was going for, but it really just lost me at that point. It was trying for something it hadn't earned. Still, John Malkovich was very funny, and that Minghella kid's not half bad. Easy on the eyes, at least from most angles. Then sometimes he's... kinda funny lookin'.
