Sufjan Stevens Steals Our Hearts

//

How was the Sufjan Stevens concert I saw on Saturday night, you ask? WONDERFUL. This is the second time I've seen him in concert, and while the first show was much tinier and therefore I got to stand right up next to the stage and stare into his eyes in wonderment, this show's larger scope - meaning about fifteen people on stage at once all playing instruments- really lent itself to Suffy's style of music. It was big, loud, beautiful. Oh... Suffy.

Brooklyn Vegan's got links up to where you can find pix, video and an mp3 download of the entire Friday night show, which appears to have been close to the same show he did on Saturday. Meanwhile, here are some pix I swiped from the above link:

Yes, he dressed like an bird. And yes, he made the rest of the musicians on stage wear butterfly wings. God I love him.

Ok. I'm intrigued.

What album should I get?

Hmm... a good entry album, I think, would probably be his most recent one, "Illinois". It's the one that's gotten him the most attention.

If you're not terrified of Suf's Christian side, though, I think Seven Swans is my favorite album of his; it's the one where he talks about religion most specifically, and being an atheist I was a little bit iffy on that, but it's just damned pretty music and I can set aside my theophobia enough to admit that. (the boyfriend, however, cannot, so I understand that too)
