I Am Link

///

--- AOL has the first pic (above) of the CG Charlotte from the upcoming live-action/CG remake of Charlotte's Web. The 1973 cartoon was a staple of my childhood so I feel like this should bother me, but it... doesn't... I'm a big fan of Babe and its sequel and this brings forth those good pig-related feelings; we'll see if it's worthy of that association soon enough. But does anyone else worry that, with Julia Roberts voicing Charlotte, you're just gonna keep expecting the spider to turn to the camera and sell you AOL? Cuz I am.

--- Here's an interview with author Max Brooks over at AICN about his new zombie-book World War Z, which I'm dying to read. Because, A) zombies! and B) there's a character named after my friend Sean and that's friggin' awesome.

--- Speaking of Sean, he took his sweet time doing it but now he's listed his 7 8 Favorite Scary Movies of the Past 7 years (see mine here). All good choices, and he reminded me that there is actually some really good stuff in the first Jeepers Creepers film, which I'd forgotten; I'd say the first hour or so is relentless in setting up a mood of uneasiness that's deeply unsettling. I find it a little bit silly once the creature actually reveals itself after that, but it is a better film than it appears to be. The sequel... well, the sequel's just pervy. And love the choice of Eyes Wide Shut!

--- Also via Sean, I find this interview with Clive Barker on the status of everything Clive Barker related one could possibly imagine. Making me very exicted is the promises of maybe three more Abarat books - I love that world deeply and am salivating over the thought of more to come.

--- KC at Stale Popcorn lists his 5 Favorite Scorsese Movies and his 5 Favorite Woody Allen movies. In which he dares question the brilliance of Annie Hall. This is where I start making that howling sound that Donald Sutherland makes at the end of Invasion of the Body Snatchers.

--- David Cronenberg talks about Andy Warhol. Cronenberg is curating a Warhol exhibit in Toronto, apparently, and I don't know why the two of them never struck me as similar artists before but there are some interesting correlations that can be made. Says Cronenberg:

"Andy saw a great connection between celebrity and death. Although he worshipped celebrities, he was aware that there were different kinds of celebrity, and that celebrity was somehow involved with death. Someone asked him what he was working on when he was doing his celebrity stuff, and he replied: "Death." He only started to work on the Marilyn silk screens after she'd committed suicide."

--- Suffering through the Big Brother apocolypse, this will help : TVGasm's Julie Chen "But First" compilation, Year 2. Genius. And EW's got a good recap up of the finale. Now I pray I never have to see Mike Boogie's face ever again. Unless it's identifying his corpse in the morgue. Ooh harsh.

--- Kate! My Kate! Film Experience shares a Kate Winslet video montage that is to die for. And down in the comments section of the post, the new love of my life Amy shares a link to the episode of Extras featuring Kate. Every day should be filled with such bounties of Kate-ness.

--- And finally, a very happy birthday to the dessicated corpse of Roald Dahl.

One of my very favorite authors, and possibly the writer that had the most influence on my childhood and subsequent development into the twisted adult who blogs before you today.

Thanks, Roald!
