The Sodomite's Oscars

.........

So, it should be pretty obvious who I'll be rooting for Sunday night. At least... where ever Brokeback is nominated, it's a safe bet that it'll be topping (heh) my list. Anyway, we'll go through the motions, for "fun"'s sake. Also, I am bored.

Best Picture: Hmm, Crash maybe? Oh right, pigs have yet to begin bouncing off my office building's seventh story windows, I forgot. When that happens, I'll start championing that race-baiting p.o.s. Barring that, however, my vote's safely with Brokeback. And, despite all the claims by a) people desperate for some dramatic upset, or b) homophobes, I think Brokeback's pretty much got this one locked up.

It's the fag's year! Or not; I wouldn't want to eat (heh) those words. Whatever.

Best Actor: I, for one, am really hoping that PSH's apparent lock on this one is the real upset, and ol' Heath pulls it off. Come on, Academy, just look at how boring PSH's speeches have been! Give Heath a break - he gave the finest, most deserving, most unexpected performance of the year.

Best Actress: God I don't care. I'm pretty much rooting for Judi Dench so she can flick her thumb on her teeth at the audience and lift her knickers and moon 'em all. If Reese has to win, then at least force hubby Ryan Phillippe to sit shirtless... pantless... in the audience. But my pick on my Oscar ballot is going to be Felicity Huffman, I think she's got an actual chance. It's all about the weiners tonight!

Best Supporting Actor: Ahem. I think we know where I stand. Do I think Jake will actually win? Not so much; it seems to be Clooney's to lose. Maybe George can invite Jake up on the stage and they could show us some new "uses" for an Oscar stauette. Ahem.

Best Supporting Actress: I haven't seen Junebug yet, it's been sitting at the top of my Netflix queue for nearly two months and they've yet to send it to me, bastards, so I can't know for sure if Roger Ebert's endless praise of Amy Adams is justified or if he's completely lost it this year or what. I love Rachel Weisz, and thought she was great in The Constant Gardener, even if it does seem a big stretch to call her part supporting. She's probably got it in the bag, though an upset for lovely Michelle Williams would not exactly upset me.

Best Director: Lee. Duh.

Best Original Screenplay: Why does Woody seem to be out of contention? I want Woody to win, dammit. I cannot even believe that Crash is considered the front runner. Have they no shame???

Best Adapted Screenplay: Larry McMurtry and Diana Ossana are a sure bet. It's Larry fuckin' McMurtry.

Blah, I can't even bother with the rest. King Kong will win a couple technicals, as will Memoirs of a Geisha. My bets on Dolly for Best Original Song. Also, Jon Stewart is probably gonna suck. Sorry.
