Brokeback's B.O.

Just a couple quick notes (yeah, busy with work):

Brokeback Mountain, a lil' film I think I may've mentioned once or twice before, is doing really well in it's second week of wider release; it expanded from 5 theaters to 69 (it would have to be 69, wouldn't it?) theaters, and continues to perform exceptionally. It's the first film since Pochahantas in 1995 to enter the top ten being in less than 100 theaters, and these are markets outside the gay ghettoes that gavve it huge numbers last weekend - we're talking places like Plano, Texas where Passion of the Christ was a huge hit. The film passed $3 million over the weekend.

I watched four movies over the weekend, and will review them in greater length if time allows this week, but here's a quick synopsis of my opinions in case I don't:

King Kong - Loved it. Yes, it could've been half an hour shorter. But it's the reason I go to the movies; it's the reason the screen is so big. Best blockbuster film of the year. And I cried. Like, three times.

And on Netflix, I watched:

Lovely & Amazing - small film with Catherine Keener and Jake G. and a bunch of other people I don't care about. A little bit sitcommy, a little bit Lifetime Television For Women, but palatable and sweet enough. Jake's basically playing Holden from The Good Girl a couple years younger. Brenda Blethyn was terrific, as was Keener.

The 40-Year-Old Virgin - I was amazed by how much I loved this movie. Hysterical. I am consistently anti-comedy, or so my friends say, but so many are so dumb and filled with hateful annoying people; this one had a huge heart and, again, Catherine Keener, and Seth Rogan is a comic god.

Kingdom Of Heaven - what a fucking bore. Pretty, but boring. Kind of like Orlando Bloom. Wherefore art thou, Ridley Scott? Do you have another Alien in you? Metaphorically speaking, I mean.
