Not really sure why Vertigo's on my mind, but I thought I'd share some images from the most beautiful film ever shot. And a quote, from my favorite scene:
Judy: Couldn't you like me, just me the way I am? When we first started out, it was so good; w-we had fun. And... and then you started in on the clothes. Well, I'll wear the darn clothes if you want me to, if, if you'll just, just like me.
Scottie: The color of your hair...
Judy: Oh, no!
Scottie: Judy, please, it can't matter to you.
I've probably seen Vertigo twenty times or more, but I really never get tired of it. When it's on TV, I can't change the channel. Perfect film.
Though, I must say, it's not my favorite Hitch film, that honor goes to Rear Window; and I'd consider Notorious to be Hitch's most romantic film (Ingrid Bergman and Cary Grant? God yes). But Vertigo is Hitch's most beautiful film to look at (the second image is my favorite moment, when he first sees her in the restaurant and the red wallpaper just glows around her), and definitely his saddest work. Kim Novak is just heart-breaking, and Jimmy Stewart is a terrific asshole.
And Edith Head's costumes are, as usual, stunning. I don't know how many times I've begged my female friends to dress like Kim Novak and Grace Kelly in Hitch's films... what's a little discomfort, ladies?!? Look at how amazing these gals were! Now slap on some high heels, some stockings, some long skirts you can barely walk in, and get goin'!
