One Other Thing Regarding The Exorcist...

There was a special on AMC this weekend that I watched about the film and I noticed something I hadn't thought much about before. Y'all know the part in the movie where Chris MacNeil (Ellen Burstyn) is in the bedroom with her possessed daughter Regan (Linda Blair) and Regan makes the door slam and that immense armoire come sliding across the floor until it almost crushes Chris?

Yeah, that sucker.

Does that part freak everyone else out as badly as it does me? I have no idea why I always find that part so scary, I think maybe it's the low-angle that Friedkin shoots the scene from, but I always remember that armoire when I think about the film alongside the pea-vomit and the cross-masturbation and... well, that's just sorta wacky, innit?

But I think I might not be alone in this because whenever I catch one of these specials on the film this scene is always featured. Or is it just because it's one of the few moments towards the end that they won't have to dub over any "cocksuckers" or blasphemies? I guess it could be that too.

Whatever the case, I think we can safely vote this one:
The World's Scariest Armoire
.

That is freaky, solely for the strength it would take to move it all the way across the room without stopping.
