I Am Link

.
--- Act Scared Well - Glenn made a great list of his ten favorite horror performances this decade over at Stale Popcorn and you should check it. Off the top of my head I think my own list would share about a full half of his picks, but I don't hate any of the ones he did choose that I wouldn't have (and I'm terrifically amused by the inclusion of Parker Posey's really hysterical performance in Scream 3 - it wouldn't have even occurred to me).

--- Smell That B.O. - Over at The Film Experience Nat runs through the top 20 movies in the US box-office-wise and contemplates what it all means, in the deal reminding me that I am a part of the problem in that I haven't gone to see Whip it! yet. Argh never enough time. I'll see it before the weekend's out, mark my words!

--- Follow Through - I once posted a brief ramble about the upcoming French flick Lucky Luke because a chance happening upon its poster introduced me to the wonders of its star Jean Dujardin... well now Twitch has a clip from the film and yuppers, Dujardin's still doin' it for me.

--- Space Slugs - I've never seen Night of the Creeps, so thankfully it's being released on DVD next week. Yay for me! If you have seen it you might enjoy this run-down of why it rocks by Stacie Ponder at AMC today. I didn't read it though cuz I don't wanna be spoiled.

--- Hoboken By Way Of New Delhi - Rich posted a very funny tribute to the ensembles of 1988's Mahakaal: The Monster, aka the Bollywood musical remake of A Nightmare On Elm Street, over at FourFour.

--- Lady Cave - Over at BD they've got a link to a clip from The Descent: Part 2.

--- Triple-Dumb - Roger Ebert continues his quest against 3D.

--- And finally, a few more tender folks have joined the cast of David Fincher's Facebook Movie, including the oddly-named Armie Hammer (he keeps your veggies fresh!), Rooney "the next Heather Langencamp" Mara, and Max Minghella. I don't really care about this story that much except for the fact that I wouldn't much mind looking at some Max Minghella today...

Parker Posey in Scream 3 is one of the most inspired moments from a horror movie this decade, for sure. I defend the film as being a spoof of the series because, well, there's no other way to defend it. It's alright, but nowhere near the other two, but if you look at it as the next logical step in a series that spoofed horror films - spoofing itself (wow, that sounds like I'm talking about Shortbus, doesn't it?) - then it actually very almost works. What other way can I explain the silliness that the film inhabits? Joking about "rules" and the "mythology" that horror franchises create.

Posey, however, is just genius. Existing in a completely different movie than most of those around her. She probably realised she can't do horror and she found it so ridiculous to be cast in one that she just decided to turn it into what she does best (comedy). Plus, her character - a spoof of Gale Weathers, which was a joke at tabloid reporters in the first place - plays into that whole spoofing of their own franchise.

The only thing that annoys me about her is her character name, Jennifer Jolie. That was lazy. I blame Ehren Kruger for so much that went wrong in that movie, but I have to find ways to defend it or else I'd be lost since I owe so much to it.

Max Minghella is like the worst actor ever. I guess that acting next to the force of nature that Rachel Weisz is, is not very flattering, but come on!!
