Annie Got Her Gun

I did not get a chance to see Get Smart over the weekend, and this week is crazy busy with the Asian Film Festival going on and my trip upstate over the coming weekend so I won't see it until next week at the earliest (unless I see it while I'm in Rochester, although my brief time there is so fucking mapped out already I don't see how, [/bitter]), but I did a little dance for the flick yesterday afternoon anyway when I saw it trounced Mike Myers handily. Yay! Does this mean Anne Hathaway's a star now? I mean, look at this fox:

Hubba hubba.

Anyway, did anybody catch it? Any good? Reviews have been mostly positive from what I saw, but then most were in contrast to the scathing reviews for The Love Guru (favorite quote on that one came from NYT: "The Love Guru” is downright anti-funny, an experience that makes you wonder if you will ever laugh again"). Wonderful.

I saw it and, while it isn't great by any stretch, I was assuredly entertained. Honestly, the parts of the movie that treated the story more like a standard action picture worked better than the comedy itself. A lot of the comedy was written to the lowest common denominator. Sometimes that works, sometimes it doesn't. The action stuff wasn't shafted at all, though.

And Anne Hathaway should be a star after this. This is the first time I've seen her in a movie that I totally bought what she was selling 100%. She's hot, she's funny, she's sweet, she's kick ass . . . she more than holds her own.
