Time for a Battlestar Rewatch?

How in the fresh Cylon hell has it been 17 years since Battlestar Galactica finished its run? It was talked about a lot here on MNPP in our early years -- especially Jamie Bamber dropping that towel, that was a very popular subject -- but to be truthful I haven't watched a minute of the show again since it finished its run. I think I watched some but not all of the short-lived spin-off Caprica? I guess that's why it was so short-lived! Anyway news has landed today that the show is hitting streaming -- this can't be for the first time, can it? -- at Paramount+ and Pluto TV on May 1st, so perhaps a re-watch is finally in order. The world inexplicably feels more dystopian than it did during the GWB presidency, which is what that show was of course riffing on -- I feel like it might have entirely new lessons to impart here in 2026. All I know is we should throw our fucking President out of the airlock, full stop.

I'm nearly finished with season 2, and for the most part, the show is as timely and engrossing as it was the first two times I watched it. There are two disposable episodes in the second season ("Black Market" and "Scar"), but they are outliers. The acting is really hitting me this time around, particularly Mary McConnell's absolutely stunning performance, which has brought me to tears several times each season. It's a brilliant show. I still side with the Cylons, though.

I don't understand why none of the male Cylon models approaches the striking attractiveness of every female Cylon. This is my main criticism of the show.

I wasn’t quite out of the closet—even in my own mind—when this scene hit. But I remember sitting around with other Marines watching this on a laptop and going, “…huh.”

Jamie Bamber swept me away the first time I saw, in those 'Hornblower' TV films before this. Galactica Jamie was physically peak Jamie. He's still beautiful too. (And he speaks 3 languages).

I have lately felt a sense of unreality that is best described as waking up in a world where we are subject to the Cylons’ zealotry. Then I hope to all things holy I just got cast in the reboot and this is just a play.
