Listen -- if I stumble upon a picture of Paul Newman shirtless that I have somehow never seen before, I am going to post said photo, reasons be damned. Given all we have posted of perhaps the most beautiful man to ever grace the silver screen over the decades, finding a nugget of anything of this sort is a small miracle. And yet even as I started this post thinking I was being random, I realized I am not -- the Fates aligned! Because Newman's perhaps greatest performance in Hud has just been released onto the Criterion Collection in 4K this very day! Kismet! Paul putting the kiss in kismet. As in somebody build me a time machine so I can go make out with Paul Newman kinda "kiss." Anyway -- Hud! Helluva pitchuh.

That is a great pic of Paul and one which I am also unfamiliar.
ReplyDeleteWhile I have a soft spot for the 1963 Hitchcockian lighthearted thriller "The Prize" as my favorite among his films, Hud is a great film full of tremendous work by all four major players.
My copy arrived yesterday and I watched it immediately! Love this movie 🔥

ReplyDeleteLooks a little like Keith Haring. With the impossibly good-looking part added. Love the bracelet.
"...perhaps the most beautiful man to ever grace the silver screen over the decades..." Have you heard of Montgomery Clift? (OK, you said "perhaps.")
ReplyDeleteYes the perhaps is doing a lot of heavy lifting! Depending on my mood I could come up with a dozen candidates that would be indisputable to some, very much with Clift right there at the top vying for it
DeleteFor your consideration: Massimo Girotti (have you ever seen Visconti’s „Ossessione“?)
DeleteMassimo has his very own tag here on the site! He's glorious
