ReplyDeleteThe film works on every level (how did Academy darling Thelma Ritter not get nominated for her gem of a performance in this?) and this is Grace's best performance in my opinion. Had she been nominated and won for this rather than the pallid Country Girl I'd be less bitter about Judy Garland's loss for A Star is Born. I still won't have felt that anyone but Judy should have won but at least Grace would have gotten it for a far better piece of work.
