The Greatest Movie...

... in which a lady nurse makes sweet sweet love
to an anatomically-correct medical dummy... with dire results?

Pin (1988)

The dire results aren't directed at the plastic-humping horny nurse - which seemed like a missed opportunity to me; she really should've show up again later to be offed in some elaborate mannequin-straddling manner - but upon the relatives and friends of the little boy that witnessed this dummy desecration, Leon (David Hewlett, most recently a regular on Stargate: Atlantis, and next to be seen in Vincent Natali's film Splice with Sarah Polley and Adrien Brody). Leon goes cuckoo for dummy-puffs, and starts believing he can hear Pin (short for Pinnochio)'s voice, which starts telling him to do fun stuff, like write poetry about raping his sister and scare their aunt/caretaker to death.

Speaking of that latter scene with the aunt-scaring, that shit spooked me! Pin's whispering voice wakes her up, whispering, "Dorothy.... Dooooooorothy... I'm right beeeehind yooooouuuu.... I'm riiiight behiiiinnnnnd yoooooouuuuu, Dorothy..." Shudder!

Honestly, Pin was way better than I was expecting it to be. It's characters behaved like I expect people would behave in such situations, and when they don't they're given the chance to tell us why they're not behaving rationally, and there was a disturbingly incestuous sleazy vibe to it all that made it genuinely unsettling. And the dummy was sufficiently off-putting. And Terry O'Quinn!

Hooray for Terry O'Quinn! Now go read this interview with the movie's director at BD, or Stacie Ponder's review of the movie. Go!

  3. Ross - Yeah it was my first time using the Netflix Wii disc. Which was awesome. Started playing in like five seconds, and was great quality. Yay technology!
