The legendary director Yasujirô Ozu was born 120 years ago today and died 60 years ago today -- yes he died on his 60th birthday, making today exactly as far from his death as his death was from his birth. If you're asking me to conjure meaning out of that, uhh, don't -- it's just an interesting bit of trivia. I have to admit that the number of Ozu films I've seen is woefully brief -- I've definitely seen Tokyo Story and Floating Weeds, and then I get confused whether it was a Spring or a Summer from there. (I've never seen the movie quoted above.) Just too many similar titles! Anyway I keep meaning to do a deep dive but I'm terribly intimidated every time I look at the list of movies. So if you were going to recommend a couple what ones would you put on top?
Tokyo Story and Late Spring are both amazing films.
