Having not read the book, I thought Hillbilly Elegy was pretty good, elevated by the performances. I think she has a very good chance this year, she's excellent in it.

ReplyDeleteThe film betrays the characters, and the performances suffer from bad writing, and poor direction. Without a doubt, Glenn's worst performance.
ReplyDeleteHE is a disappointment but I’m perfectly fine with its two Oscar noms: make up is effective and Glenn is fantastic, as usual, as the leading character granny. Far from caricatural as her detractors use to say, she modulates well a role which on paper could have been, yes, strong but also monotonous. Oscar? Well, worse thespians have got it thanks not necessarily to better perfs
ReplyDeleteI loved the Wife, for her simmering performance. An overlooked role of hers I loved was the film Heights. She should have been nominated for that one.
ReplyDeleteThey do give out Oscars as a sort of lifetime achievement award sometimes. Would be hilariously typical (i.e., embarrassing for everyone involved) if she won it for THIS, though.
