Good Morning, World

.
I don't know how you guys spent your weekends but I spent a delightful little chunk of mine re-watching the first season of Enlightened, HBO's underappreciated (by HBO, I mean) 2011 series from the genius Mike White and starring Laura Dern -- I'll get to the second season any day (slash minute) now (the whole thing is streaming on Amazon!) but one of the main things that struck me this go-through?
.
.
I think everybody knows and appreciates how Laura Dern was The Jam, but every single person around her was perfect too, and nobody to me seems more underrated than Luke is -- the third episode of the second season is a gorgeous little showcase for him. And yet where's our Lukeassaince? I want a Lukeassaince dammit. If he were to ever see this post I'm sure he'd be embarrassed I'm touting his acting skills alongside his better-off-forgotten 1999 comedy Kill the Man (nobody puts that one on their lists of films from that great year of movies, huh), not to mention that it's one of his very very very few and far between gratuitous scenes...

The sad fact is Luke Wilson appears to me to be a Never Nude? This is the most skin from him that we have ever really gotten? (That butt in My Super Ex-Girlfriend is clearly a butt double.) And yet he looks so great without his clothes on! Why so shy, Luke Wilson? Well maybe he'll stage that Lukeassaince and flash some skin while he's at it. Hit the jump for the rest...

Ugh, I love Enlightened. The end of the fourth episode, with Dern's monologue, over the characters kayaking, about there's so much time is simply gorgeous. The writing, the imagery...I rewatch it throughout the year.

I guess Wilson never stuck out for me not because of his acting but because I found his character kinda generic, especially next to the unique life force that was Dern. His character was one of the few areas where I found the writing to be lacking.
