Pic of the Day

.
I'm not 100% sure if this photo of Gary Cooper shirtless smoking a cigarette on the set of Josef von Sternberg's 1930 film Morocco is from the booklet that accompanies the big beautiful blu-ray boxed-set that was released by Criterion a couple of months ago since I (sadly) can't afford that thing myself. But I wouldn't be surprised if it was since in all my many many years of scouring the web for Gary Cooper pictures this is the first time I'm ever seeing this really very fine shot. It must be new. (It's also big so click it to embiggen.)

Wait a few months and you'll be able to buy the Criterion version at a second hand shop for much less than you'd play for it now. I don't like what Criterion is doing though. When they reissue movies, the extras are either not to be seen or badly presented. Pierre la Fou, for example, has subtitles that go by so fast they're unreadable. The Great McGinty didn't even have subtitles. Like you said they're too expensive too. I was going to get a copy of Elevator to the Gallows when I was shopping in Chicago, and it was just too expensive for me.

Give it some time. It will come down in price.

Divine - what a man - even the heavy stagey eye makeup can’t deny his total masculine allure - thanks so much for digging this treasure up !

I believe that was when Marlene allegedly said “Ooooh, Daddy! Buy me THAT for Christmas!”
