Everything You Ever Need To Know About Life...

... you can learn from:

Oliver: The Cosmic Fragments by Heraclitus -- the meaning of the river flowing is not that all things are changing so that we cannot encounter them twice, but that some things stay the same only by changing.

What, you thought I would let James Ivory's 90th birthday go by without quoting a passage from the movie that just finally won him an Oscar? You crazy. Happy birthday, James! Even if you got pissy about Luca's dickless masterpiece your choices with structure and word-choice were really rather something, and the movie wouldn't be what it is without you. Thank you.

What is your favorite Merchant-Ivory movie, everybody?
Mine is Maurice obviously, but I sure love Howard's End
And A Room With a View
Oh how does one even begin to choose...

Howard's End is my favorite. I adore Vanessa Redgrave!

Tough to choose but I'd have to say Howards End as well is my all-time favorite though A Room with a View is a very close second. I also have a soft spot for The Europeans (I adore Lee Remick) and Maurice.

It's weird how much young Rupert Graves looks like Tom Daley (or vice versa)

Maurice was a milestone film for me. It’s the first time I got the courage to rent a specifically gay title at my local video store. That meant calculating when to walk up to the counter and get in line and to observe who was in line with me. The worker there checking out was someone from my school. So it took me some biting of my lip to get the nerve up. But once I was through that step, it was mind blowing my sexy watching the movie with my boyfriend at the time. We had to stop the movie after the first kiss to take care of our needs, and the finished it. It was a scary time in my life, but the time filled with such discovery.
