10 Off My Head: Siri Says 2011

It's been a couple of weeks since the last time the little lady inside of our telephone whispered sweet nothings into our ear and gave us the chance to do a new entry in our "Siri Says" series but lo behold today she's back, and she said the number "11" and so lo behold we're looking to The Movies of 2011 today. It's only been seven years since we celebrated and dissected that twelve months of cinema with our Golden Trousers, you can read through all of those at this link - or head straight to my Top Ten right here - but things have shifted around some so let's update where we stand as of 2018. 

The problem with some of these are that I just haven't seen them in seven years. But doesn't that say something, that I haven't felt the need to revisit some, while others I've revisited several times since? Like I'm sure if I re-watched Martha Marcy May Marlene or Take Shelter (both movies that were in my original top ten) today I'd remember what I loved about them but right this minute they're foggy, my recollections. So they've dropped off. Anyway that's all we're doing. Shaking out my wobbly brain at this exact moment...

    Looking at the astounding films that "only" made it to runner-up status, I can only conclude: WHAT A YEAR.

    (Not a day goes by where I'm not quoting Bridesmaids or identifying with Mavis from Young Adult - both of which are mildly worrying, I guess, but hey.)

    Also, can I just say, seven years on and it still infuriates me just how badly Kirsten Dunst was robbed. She should have snatched up every award of the season, with only Tilda being allowed to breathe down her neck once in a while for entertainment value. The Iron Lady, though? Ugh.

    I noticed you have Dominic Cooper looking amazing in The Devil's Double but don't list the film anywhere. I thought the film was only fair but he was great in it.

    Joel -- I agree with what your said about Devil's Double - Dom's very good in it, but the movie's not great.

    Also was Bullhead that year? Shoot I missed including it.

    Ugh, such a good year. When I was first reading this I was like "What? Put MMMM and Take Shelter back in your top 10! They're so great!" But then looking through your list I don't know what I'd take out - I supposed The Future or You're Next (never seen them) and The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (liked it but thought Craig was badly miscast and wasn't very good in it), but then what about Bridesmaids? And The Artist? And Tree of Life?

    TGWTDT is the one that's probably grown on me the most since I saw it the first time back in 2011 - I only liked it at first (it didn't make my Top Ten at the time) but I full on love its bad-ass now.
