Great Moments In Movie Shelves #150

.
Melissa McCarthy has a new dumb comedy out this weekend and you know what? I refuse to feel bad about having a sweet spot for Melissa's dumb comedies (meaning the ones not directed by Paul Feig). I know that most of them are not "good" by the general metric we have decided to measure "goodness" by in reference to movies, but they're usually comforting, in their way - you know what you're going to get. I had plenty of issues with Identity Thief when it came out (here's my review) but if it was on TV right now I would one hundred percent watch it, know what I mean? I know you know.

Anyway one of the best gags in the whole thing is one of set design - when Jason Bateman finally gets to the apartment of the woman (McCarthy) who stole his identity it is stuffed from top to bottom, corner to corner, with the ugliest fucking garbage a trash-person would spend other people's money on - piles of appliances and gaudy self-portraits and an actual gong and like a dozen pastel plastic watering cans? I have no idea, but it's funny. And then they have a big knock-down drag-out fight in the middle of it...

... and what can I say? I laughed.
In the immortal words of Marion McPherson...

Ya know what? I'm with you on all of this. Identity Thief has some problems, but this scene in particular made me laugh my ass off.

I saw Life of the Party on Friday night because I needed a comedy, and it really hit the spot. The entire audience ate it up, ESPECIALLY Maya Rudolph, who steals every goddamn scene she's in. I was shocked, given the pretty terrible reviews, by how much I enjoyed it.
