The Keough Master

.
You guys how did this happen? How did Elvis' granddaughter become one of the most interesting actresses working today? This is surprising to me! If you'd have told me that the sullen little thing with dyed hair in the first Magic Mike movie was going to go on to give terrific performances for Andrea Arnold, Soderbergh, and the director of Krisha, that she was going to be in a Mad Max movie and she was going to have upcoming projects from Lars von Trier (!!!) and the director of It Follows and Jeremy Saulnier (director of Blue Ruin and Green Room)... you guys, Riley Keough has got herself the best agent in the business.

And all that is before I even get to today's news -- she's just signed on to star in The Lodge, the new movie from Severin Fiala and Veronica Franz, aka the directors who made last year's austere Austrian nightmare Goodnight Mommy. I mean it's as if she traveled around to all of the film festivals and just pointed at every single director who made something interesting in the past 24 months and said, "You."

The Lodge and I quote "tells the story of a young woman and her new stepchildren who are menaced by a terrifying supernatural force while spending Christmas in their remote cabin” which, obviously, is a story we have seen told once or twice in the movies (hell it's not that far from what Riley's film It Comes At Night earlier this year was about, give or take a couple of characters and some decorative tinsel) but it keeps getting re-told because people keep finding new ways to tell it, and Goodnight Mommy was so terrific (here's my review) I very much desire to see how Fiala & Franz can spin it. Go Riley go.

Yep, Goodnight Mommy was so good that I'm definitely on board for this.
