Happy Horror Birthday To Me

.
I'll be headed off in a bit (that's me pictured above) for my 40th birthday three day weekend celebration (picture lots of booze and, uh, that's all, just booze) but first let's take stock of the weekend in your movie worlds. There is the new Planet of the Apes film, which I have heard good stuff about, and there is Lady Macbeth (which I will actually have a post on for y'all tomorrow, stay tuned). But that's it?

Unless you're in New York!!!

.
This summer in NYC has suddenly been taken over by Horror! And I couldn't be happier about it. There are three gigantic movie series hitting the specialty movie houses here in the city, and I plan on taking in some of each. First off the newly refurbished and fabulous Quad has MONDO BAVA, which is screening over 20 films by the Italian master of green spotlights shining inside of caverns, and gore. I could quite possibly just live inside this retrospective, I so want to see them all. Here's a trailer they made!
.

.
Then out at BAM in Brooklyn they've got a series called NOTES ON CAMP which takes us to the woods for a bunch of Summer Camp movies - it's not specifically horror-themed but since so many horror movies fit the bill there are plenty. They're showing Friday the 13th, The Burning, and Sleepaway Camp! Whee!

And lastly but hardly leastly comes SCARY MOVIES X, the return of the Film Society of Lincoln Center's annual horror movie series, which has this year moved from its usual Halloween-time to mid-Summer, and runs July 14th through the 20th, and screens new and old films alike inside the glorious Walter Reade theater.
.
.
And yes in a very strange twist of fate - which probably means I will be murdered, since that's how these things work in Horror Movies - FSLC is screening TWO BIRTHDAY SLASHER MOVIES ON MY ACTUAL BIRTHDAY. That is weird, super weird, and awesome, super awesome, and you better believe I am taking advantage of it.
