Good Morning, World

.
No offense intended to Ryan O'Neal (although I suppose if he were to read this there's not really any other way to take it), who is turning 76 today, but I've remained firmly indifferent to his charms all these years and always look back at his little blip of super-stardom with side-eye. In theory (that is in still pictures) it sort of makes sense to me but then I watch him in something and I forget I'm even looking at somebody five minutes later. (Yeah okay Ryan O'Neal should definitely be offended, I guess.) That said I've only seen a couple of his films - Paper Moon and Barry Lyndon and Love Story, of course - so maybe I'm missing the real showcase for his talents. Any opinions? And anybody know what movie these gifs are from? Here's the full scene (link NSFW). I have no clue.

If you haven't seen What's Up, Doc?, you really must! Not only does it include a shirtless, furry Ryan O'Neal, but also an extremely funny Barbra Streisand and the incomparable Madeline Kahn.

I know that casting O'Neal was a necessity for Kubrick to get Barry Lyndon made, but what a high cost to an otherwise near-perfect film. And he is partially responsible for the wreckage that is his daughter's life. Contemptible human being.

Agree with Rick, you must watch What's Up, Doc. God I miss Madeline Kahn.

The Main Event?

Despite his attractiveness I never fully understood his mega-stardom either. The fact that he seems like pond scum doesn't help either.

However he did appear in some decent films. As everyone else said What's Up Doc? is a comedic joy with Streisand never looser or funnier on screen, a load of hysterical supporting actors/actresses and best of all a truly show stealing Madeline Kahn as THE Eunice Burns!

Others worth seeing-The Thief That Came to Dinner-this has both Jacqueline Bisset and Jill Clayburgh, and Wild Rovers.

I think Ryan was his sexiest on "What's Up, Doc?". He's almost Cary Grant-ish!
