I've run out of time to properly wish one of my favorite directors a happy birthday - David Cronenberg is turning 74 today! I don't even have time to go all in on the news that The Fly is being remade again (about which I have some thoughts). So in the interest of recognizing him but as quickly as fucking possible I am just gonna ask y'all:
What's your favorite Cronenberg movie?
For my money there aren't many better runs by any directors than the one he had from 1979 to 1991 - The Brood, Scanners, Videodrome, The Dead Zone, The Fly, Dead Ringers, and Naked Lunch. But if I had to choose...

I'm not a big fan of the sort of film he specializes in but Dead Ringers was vastly disturbing though if I were too pick which I thought the most of it would be The Fly. But that's partly due to the spot on casting of Jeff Goldblum and his excellence in the lead.
VIDEODROME! It has everything one could need from Cronenberg, blood, sex, violence, snuff, BDSM, vaginal VCR like openings, Deborah Harry as a brunette, a war between two different factions of scifi wierdness, Toronto, the autobiographical details like Civic TV and the blue movies, Deborah Harry as a sadomasochistic radio host, the body horror!
I'm also partial to The Fly, Scanners and Crash. One of the most important Canadian artists.
Because I'm a child of the times, and was a teenager in the late 90's, I'm going to have to confess my undying love for eXistenZ.
Tough question, but at least today I'd rank my top 5 as: 1) eXistenZ, 2) Eastern Promises, 3) The Dead Zone, 4) Naked Lunch, 5) Spider.
DEAD RINGERS. between Coma and Dead Ringers Genevieve Bujold was my Isabelle Huppert.

Videodrome is the holy bible of body horror, plus all what homodrome said. Long Live the New Flesh!
I'm partial to Cronenberg's early, low budget horror films -- "Shivers," "Rabid" and "The Brood" -- but he has NEVER done me wrong with anything he's done since.
